CDI Doubles Capacity for Recycling and Reselling Information Technology

CDI Doubles Capacity for Recycling and Reselling Information Technology Markham, Ontario, March 25, 2008 – CDI Computer Dealers, Inc. (CDI), one of the largest independent re-marketers of IT equipment in North America, today announced the opening of a new, 64,000-square foot processing facility in Toronto that more than doubles its capacity to recycle and remarket technology assets. CDI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rolling Meadows, Illinois-based Relational Technology Solutions, refurbishes and then resells or leases the vast majority of the recycled technology rather than placing it in landfills.

“With this new facility, CDI is well-positioned to support customers in a slowing economy,” said Mark Stachulski, chief operating officer of CDI’s parent company, Relational Technology Solutions.

“We have already seen a sharp increase in the number of inquiries for ways in which medical, education and government institutions can maximize their IT purchasing power.”

“As a TDSB contracted vendor of record, CDI has increased the opportunity for our students to have access to technology in a budget-restricted environment. The ability to purchase top quality refurbished computers from CDI is a cost-effective alternative to brand new, and is a viable way of enhancing the learning environment,” said Michelle Spear, contract specialist/Purchasing and Distribution Services for the Toronto District School Board.

CDI’s new facility is designed to process in excess of 1,000 IT assets daily. Automated lines manage the tagging, cleaning, refurbishing and imaging of servers, desktops, notebooks, LCD and CRT displays, printers, telephones and accessories.

“The best way to divert technology from landfills is to find it a second useful life,” said Saar Pikar, CDI’s general manager. “At CDI, we remarket every possible asset and succeeded with more than 90% of the assets we processed last year. When remarketing is not possible, or specifically unwanted by the equipment owner, we follow a strict zero landfill policy to recycle the equipment with no environmental impact.”
